3 Ways to Fight Mosquitoes

21 Sep 2016

The National Environment Agency (NEA) has been doubling its vector control efforts around areas affected by Zika in Singapore (Cook and Hsu, 2016).

You can help in the fight against Mozzies in 3 simple ways!

3-Ways-to-Fight-Mosquitoes

First, follow the 5-step Mozzie Wipeout (National Environment Agency of Singapore 2016):

  1. Change water in vases and bowls on alternate days;
  2. Remove water from flower pot plates on alternate days;
  3. Turn over all water storage containers;
  4. Loosen hardened soil;
  5. Clear blockages and put BTI insecticide in roof gutters monthly.

Next, protect yourself by applying insect repellent and wearing long-sleeved shirt and pants.

Lastly, seek medical attention immediately if you are feeling unwell. Symptoms of Zika and Dengue may include fever, skin rash, red eyes, joint pain, muscle ache and headache (National Environment Agency of Singapore 2016).
